The situation that Becca found herself in was one that she never thought would, or could even happen. She held her arm away from her body; thread pinched between her fingers. Ezra had instructed her to tie up the manticore with her thread and carry it with them until they reached a disposal site. He quickly taught her a variation of the incantation she used to create the shield. This version allowed her to levitate the object the thread held, but it also did something to keep others from seeing the manticore.
He had told her to make an illusion, so she created the image of her holding a balloon. She projected that thought, and that’s what everyone had been seeing so far. Due to inexperience with this new incantation, Becca couldn’t get distracted. She kept having to recite it again to keep it up, especially for the illusion she had constructed. In between incantations she spoke in hushed tones.
